Still flying
Saturday, July 19, 2008

On the weekend, after fetching Nadia from her workplace, they went to Bugis. The main itinerary for the day was the ride on the DHL balloon. But as soon as we arrived the placed, we were told that the weather condition is not favourable for us to fly. It was only 1445hrs, so we make our way to Bugis cinema to catch a movie. Fuoh! this was like our third movie in a week, WANTED, Get Smart and now, Hancock. The time was only 1500hrs and the shows start at 1545hrs. What to do...What to do. Therefore, to kill time, we walked aimlessly around Bugis Junction. The sypnosis and rating of the movie can be found at the end of this post.
After the movie, still eager to take the ride, we make our way to the DHL Balloon place. This time, we are able to FLY!! We were slotted for the 1940hrs ride, thou Nadia was quite disheartened because by the time it was all dark. It was still quite early for our flight, so we went to have a quick dinner a the nearby Tong Seng Eatery. After the dinner, we went back to the ride. Anxiety was filling into our hearts. Moon here we come! While waiting for our time, we sat at the chairs provided looking at the balloon ascends and descends a few times. Nadia began to fill in some unwanted questions such as, "What if the balloon bursts?" and "Do they have back up plan?". Hakim was like, "No dear, this is Singapore. There's always a back up plan."
After much waiting, it was our turn to fly. While the balloon was ascending, Hakim was thinking, maybe this was a bad idea after all. Hakim was having his acrophobia period again. Knees began to wobble, grips began to tighten. While all this happens, Nadia was having a field time, taking pictures and laughing at Hakim. After 5 mins, we reached the targeted heights, 150 meter. Luckily, we didn't took the new uber heights, which went all the way up to 180 meters. Even though, the guide encourage us to walk around the platform, Hakim just stood on to his place. As soon as we reached the 150 meters, we began to descend. Upon seeing the cars and people's head below getting bigger and bigger by seconds, Hakim finally able to move, Apadah! Altogether it was a 10 min ride. Still I prefer my feet on the ground.
